ABSTRACT
In this day and age, few of us have had the opportunity or need to sail a ship. I don’t mean a sailboat or a waverunner, but an honest-to-goodness ship. Just over a century ago, ships were vital to the economy of any industrial nation. There was every kind of ship, from small rum runners to huge, hulking whaling ships that could spend years and years at sea.
