ABSTRACT
Introduction In the first edition of this book, this chapter was titled "New York State Law Governing Arson." It was, and still is, an excellent reference for the various legal considerations which have an impact on the origin and cause of fire investigation. However, in the rewriting of this chapter, I have decided to broaden the scope of the legal aspects and bring them more into line with the National Fire Protection Association Standards under NFPA 921, Chapter 5, "Legal Considerations."
