ABSTRACT

Introduction Until a few years ago the term “detergent enzymes” was almost synonymous with proteolytic enzymes. Proteases were introduced back in the 1960s and established themselves as indispensable detergent ingredients up through the 1970s and 1980s. Amylases, which degrade starchy stains, also established themselves as important ingredients during this period. Their use is growing, but is still restricted to certain detergent segments and geographical areas.
