where β is delta foreset slope, υ is fluvial diffusivity, qSO is a measurement of qS at the alluvial-basement transition, and the * subscript denotes a dimensionless quantity (for mathematical procedure to reach these expressions, see Muto & Swenson 2005). To make the quantities dimensionless, we define particular length (D) and time (τb) scales, given as:
