ABSTRACT

Mathematicians will find theorems about Go both subtle and surprising. Combinatorial game theory provides general methods for analyzing games, particularly games in which typical positions have separate pieces with lim ited interaction. This decomposition into pieces gives group structure, and this structure can be exploited to precisely analyze Go endgame positions that don’t yield to the methods of the strongest Go players.
