ABSTRACT
If two systems do not allow the same maximum polynomial degree, then approximate conversions of high degree into low order functions (reducing combined with splitting spline segments) and perhaps vice versa (elevating and merging spline segments) are inevitable. This causes approximation errors which must be minimized [4,10,15,1,12].
