ABSTRACT

The purpose of this section is to give some examples in elementary settings where we see what can be done with disagreement. We have already observed that if Tom and Dick are dividing a cake and think two pieces to be 40%-60% and 70%-30% of the cake respectively, then we can give one a piece he views as 60% and the other a piece he views as 70%. Both have done much better than the 50% they had coming. But that was a fluke of the evaluations, and would presumably not occur under Cut and Choose because the cutter should have cut halves.
