ABSTRACT

In the past several years, augmented reality (AR) has gained significant attention due to rapid progress in several key areas (e.g., wearable com­ puting and virtual reality rendering) [Caudell 94]. AR technology provides an intuitive way to present information in order to enhance situational awareness and perception by exploiting the natural and familiar modes of human interaction with the environment. Completely immersive AR re­ quires the user to wear head-mounted, see-through displays that require precise calibration [Janin 93].
