ABSTRACT

When the pharaohs built their pyramids with one stone at the top, four

in the next layer, nine below them, etc., they stopped with 24 layers to

make the total number of stones a square, 70 2 .

As pointed out in 1919 by Dr . Watson, besides 1 this is the only

square among these sums of squares.
