ABSTRACT

Consider the incomplete Gamma function with real arguments a and x, x being positive. The convergent series expansion (5.02) of Chapter 2 is useful for computing y (a, x) when x is small or moderate in size, but not when x is large owing to severe numerical cancellation among the terms. We therefore seek an asymptotic expansion, and for this purpose it is more convenient to work with the complementary function T ( a , x).
