ABSTRACT
One contribution of wavelets, Farge says, is that they have "forced people to think about what the Fourier transform is, forced them to think that when they choose a type of analysis they are in fact mixing the signal and the function used for the analysis. Often when people use the same technique for several scientific generations, they become blind to it. A new tool like wavelets forces us to reconsider the problem from scratch."
