ABSTRACT
The would-be user of wavelets faces an embarrassment of riches. Even excluding hybrids like wavelet packets, choosing a wavelet may seem overwhelming. Not only are there two big classes of wavelet transformscontinuous and discrete-but discrete transforms can be redundant, orthogonal, or biorthogonal. Each category contains innumerable possibilities, Daubechies' wavelets alone constituting a very big class.
