ABSTRACT

Results of recent research in heart disease show that many episodes of heart disease are painless. The medical terms are silent myocardial ischemia (painless angina, in lay terms) and silent, or unrecognized, myocardial infarction (painless heart attacks). Perhaps the most frightening aspect of silent heart disease is that it can be undetected until the affected individual dies suddenly and unexpectedly. This happens over a thousand times a week in the United States.
