ABSTRACT
Airy stress function technique can be followed to solve many two-dimensional elasticity problems as discussed in chapter 1. Williams (1957) solved the fundamental problem of the stress field computation near a crack tip in an elastic, isotropic material using the Airy stress function as described in the following section.
