ABSTRACT

Kinetic energy is exchanged by a collision between particles. Potential energy can be converted to kinetic energy and exchanged by a collision or it can be produced or converted by interaction with a field. State information can be exchanged during solvation, phase change, quantum interaction, or chemical reaction. All these processes involve some release or absorption of energy and so state and energy are intimately related. Molecular composition information is usually exchanged through chemical reaction, although it can also be exchanged by an interaction with an external field (spectroscopy).
