ABSTRACT

Sections 3.3, 3.5, and 3.7) • the concept of equilibrium constant K, other than Ka (Chapter 7,

Section 7.10)

This chapter will introduce the concepts associated with the shape (conformation) of a molecule due to rotation about carbon-carbon single bonds. The influence of steric hindrance for determining conformation will be discussed. The concept of pseudorotation for cyclic compounds will be introduced, as well as the resulting conformations. The low-energy conformation for cyclic and acyclic compounds will be identified and also the relationship of energy considerations and conformation. Learning how to draw the various conformations is an important component of this study.
