ABSTRACT
In terms of what I originally said this book was going to be about, I have not yet got very far. All I have done is to establish that there is some sort of fundamental connection between science and music; but exactly what is the nature of this connection, or why it exists, I have not touched on at all. Because I discussed things in the context of ancient history, it isn’t even clear what matters we should talk about next to help us answer these very dif cult questions. So what we have to do is to begin looking at things from a modern point of view, which means, in historical terms, we’ve got to move at least beyond the Renaissance.
