ABSTRACT

Basic themes in the design of sedimentation basins are (1) the suspension characteristics, and (2) basin hydraulics. These two themes are the basis for theory and practice (Camp, 1946).

The suspensions in Table 6.1 can be classified in settling as discrete settling, flocculent settling, hindered settling, and compression settling. Each suspension has its own characteristic settling behavior, described in Sections 6.2.3 and 6.4.
