ABSTRACT

This chapter contains three examples of fieldwork, particularly sediment sampling, carried out under studies of the effects of past and present metal mining on the environment. In the examples, the purpose and objectives of the studies are outlined to show how important it is to have good information of the study area with encountered environmental problems, and define the objectives prior to planning the fieldwork, particularly the selection of locations for sampling stations. Further, logistics of the fieldwork, all equipment necessary to carry out the fieldwork, sample handling, and the costs associated with the fieldwork, are described.
