ABSTRACT

This chapter provides the tools to make ion exchange work for you. It describes the procedures and components needed to perform testing of columnar ion exchange systems.

Bench-scale ion exchange systems can be used to do a myriad of things ranging from a simple experiment to determine if a particular ion exchange resin in a particular ionic form will remove a particular target ion from a wastewater stream, to developing complete design data for a new ion exchange system. It is often used to develop data for graduate degrees. It is also used to test or evaluate the performance of a newly developed resin. The techniques are basically the same and modified as required.
