ABSTRACT

Once a well has been developed and a test plan has been devised, the next step is to actually perform a series of slug tests at that well. The emphasis of this chapter will be on the major elements involved in the performance of slug tests. The discussion will primarily focus on three areas: (1) the equipment used in the per formance of slug tests, (2) the methods and considerations involved in initiating a test, and (3) the degree of head recovery needed prior to repeating a test at a particular well. The chapter will conclude with the definition of a series of practical guidelines for the performance of slug tests.
