Amino Acid Interactions: A Selective Review book
Amino acids serve as the currency of body protein metabolism. Thus, to maintain an adequate state of protein nutriture, an appropriate intake level and balance of indispensable (essential) amino acids and of socalled nonspecific nitrogen [usually from dispensable (nonessential) amino acids] is required. Various factors, including host and other dietary factors, affect the utilization of amino acids and the integration of whole body nitrogen metabolism, and, in turn, these determine the quantitative nature of the diet that is needed to support and maintain the adequate functioning of cells and organs.
