ABSTRACT

Sound in an enclosed space is strongly affected by the reflective properties of the enclosing surfaces and to the extent that the enclosing surfaces are reflective, the shape of the enclosure also affects the sound field. When an enclosed space is bounded by generally reflective surfaces, multiple reflections will occur, and a reverberant field will be established in addition to the direct field from the source. Thus, at any point in such an enclosure, the overall sound pressure level is a function of the energy contained in the direct and reverberant fields.
