ABSTRACT

Plant B was put into production in late 1948. B . A . Nikitin, a Corresponding Member of the USSR Academy of Sciences, Deputy Director of the R I A N , was in charge of the start-up team of researchers from all of the institutes that participated in the previous operations at the radiochemical plant. A .P . Vinogradov, a Corresponding Member of the USSR Academy of Sciences, Director of the GEOKhl , was a deputy manager of the start-up team and an assistant of Kurchatov in the analytical chemistry [54]. Another assistant of Kurchatov was Professor A . P . Ratner, Doctor of Chemistry, a coauthor of the above mentioned "blue book" that described the technology to be implemented at Plant B.
