In scientific literature we find a sufficient number of publications devoted to the theoretical and experimental problems of alloys modification. The most complete and modern description of the nature and mechanisms of alloy modification is presented in Gol’dshtein and Mizin’s monograph [1]. The authors present ample experimental material on the inoculation of melts of iron-carbon alloys, the method which consists in the formation of artificial solidification centres. Alternative approaches, as the authors claim, are the formation of barriers at the surface of growing crystals achieved by introducing surfaceactive additives, as well as various external actions on the solidifying metal: mechanical, electromagnetic, vibrational, and ultraacoustic.
