ABSTRACT

Another idea of the active waveguide is based on the traveling wave amplification with drifting electron flow in the semiconductor, as like as in the vacuum traveling wave tube. The problem, however, is that the drift electron velocity in the semiconductors is limited due to electron scattering near the value ~ 107 cm/s, so the deceleration of the electromagnetic wave must be very high (~ 103). Meanwhile, if the deceleration is so high, it offers the opportunity of the interaction length to be much longer than the wavelength that is nec essary for effective amplification. Thus at the frequencies / > 40 GHz these conditions may be satisfied with the samples as long as 1 mm that is appro priate for experimental performance.
