ABSTRACT

One of the power devices where the multicomponent plasma is used is the magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) power generator. Its simplified scheme corresponding to the so called continuous electrode Faraday generator is presented in Fig. 9.1. In the MHD generator the vector of the magnetic field B is directed across the motion of an electrically conducting gas which flows along an insulated duct at a speed u. The gas charged particles are under the influence of an induced electrical field u x B which generates an electric current directed perpendicular to vectors u and B. With a pair of electrodes on opposite sides of the duct in contact with the conducting gas and closed at the external load, there is a chance to transform the energy of the plasma flowing across the magnetic field into the energy delivered to the external load [1,2].
