ABSTRACT
This chapter focuses on biogeographic patterns and processes. Processes must be distinguished from patterns (from which processes are inferred). Biogeographical processes may correspond to different concepts and ideas of processes believed to be important parts of the biogeographical system. They will be discussed in detail in the second part of this chapter.
