ABSTRACT

When current meter measurements are made with a cable-suspended current meter in deep swift water, the current meter and the sounding weight will be carried downstream for a certain distance before the weight touches the bottom. This is often the case when measurements are made from a bridge or cableway which is at a vertical distance above the water surface. In such cases, corrections have to be applied in order to determine the correct depth of water and the depth to which the current meter should be lowered.
