3.1 Manipulating distributions
In this chapter further definitions and results are presented. These are relevant to aspects of reliability theory but also introduce some ideas that are not found in most textbooks on reliability theory. The style adopted is necessarily brief in order to cover the material. Illustrative explanations of results are given but formal mathematical proofs are excluded as they may be found in other sources (see further reading at the end of this chapter).
