ABSTRACT

As a developing country, construction industry

has contributed 5% of Gross Domestic Product

in terms of economic development in Malaysia

(CIDB, 2006). Although this contribution is small

as compared to other industries, this industry has

multiplier effects to the economy and enhances

the growth of other industries namely manufac-

turing and financial services. According to the

Department of Statistics Malaysia (2006), the con-

struction industry has added value to related man-

ufacturing industries by 27% and financial services

by nearly 44%. In addition to that, this industry

plays an important role to socio-economic devel-

opment through education, professional services,

employment opportunities, social infrastructure

and economic infrastructure.
