ABSTRACT

From the initial attempts to the present, the use

of these methods and tools became widespread,

and clearly had several direct and indirect benefits,

which can be stated as follows (Cole, 2005):

• They made a clear definition of the “green

building” and improved environmental per-

formance while recognizing issues of cost and

applicability,

• They affirmed a set of performance issues and

assigned significance to them, thus making the

assessments in an objective and explicit manner,

• Theyprovidedagreater communicationand inter-

action between the members of the design team

and stakeholders of the construction industry,

• They provided single and summarized results of

building environmental performance assessment

to inform the developers, investors, designers,

occupants, and etc.
