ABSTRACT

ABSTRACT: Enhancement of the catalytic activity of NiMo alloys for hydrogen evolu tion reaction (HER) has been observed when the alloy is electrodeposited under magnetic field B, control. Using cyclic voltammetry at low scan rate and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) measurements, the significant modification of the catalytic activity of the alloy has been observed in acidic water, in basic solution at 25° C and in industrial conditions (hot alkaline solution). For the NiM o alloy electrodeposited under applied magnetic field, the stationary current-potential curves show high current densities, and more pronounced potential shift to the positive domain. The EIS measurements corroborate the stationary observations and show a decrease of the polarisation resistance, the charge transfer resist ance and an increase o f the double layer capacitance according to the modifications o f the deposit properties improved by the forced magnetohydrodynamic convection.
