ABSTRACT

13.1 Introduction Alkali-activated slag cements and concretes have been used in construction since 1958 in the former Soviet Union. As discussed in previous chapters, alkali-activated slag cement and concrete possess many unique features compared with conventional portland cements and concretes. The manufacture, applications and specifications for alkali-activated slag cement and concrete are different from those for ordinary portland cement and concrete. Over 60 standards related to alkali-activated slag cements and concretes were developed in the Soviet Union. This chapter summarizes some specifications and standards related to the raw materials, cements, concretes, structures and manufactures for alkali-activated slag cements and concretes in the former Soviet Union.
