ABSTRACT

7.1. Introduction Durability is one of the most important desired properties of concrete. Concrete is inherently a durable material. However, concrete is susceptible to attack in a variety of different exposures unless some precautions are taken. It is generally agreed that alkali-activated cement and concrete exhibit better corrosion resistance, but a larger shrinkage than conventional portland cement and concrete. This chapter discusses various durability properties of alkali-activated slag cement and concrete.
