ABSTRACT

Table [3] shows the experimental cracking and failure loads, and the theoretical failure loads. A very good correlation between the experimental and theoretical results were observed.

Wall Experimental Theoretical Cracking Load (KN) Failure Load (KN) Failure Load Lies Between (KN)

The experimental and theoretical crack patterns were compared in figure [7] for different walls. An excellent correlation was observed between the experimental and the theoretical crack patterns in the upper three courses of the walls. Due to the assumed boundary conditions in the F.E.M., movement was prevented at the base of the wall. This assumption prevented the formation of the cracks in the lower coarse, while in the experimental crack patterns, the cracks propagated till the base of the wall.
