ABSTRACT

Abstract This paper discusses some r e s u l t s forthcoming from the S t r a t e g i c Highway Research Program (SHRP p r o j e c t ) , en­ t i t l e d , Performance Related Testing and Measuring of Asphalt-Aggregate I n t e r a c t i o n s and Mixtures. The primary purpose of t h i s p r o j e c t i s t o e s t a b l i s h r e l a t i o n s h i p s be­ tween asphalt binder p r o p e r t i e s and f i e l d performance which includes considerations of f a t i g u e c r a c k i n g , per­ manent deformation, thermal cracking, aging, and water s e n s i t i v i t y . A secondary o b j e c t i v e i s t o e s t a b l i s h per­ formance r e l a t e d t e s t s which can be used f o r the design of asphalt-aggregate mixtures or f o r the p r e d i c t i o n of spe­ c i f i c s p e c i f i c performance c h a r a c t e r i s t i c s of mixtures i n - s e r v i c e pavements.
