ABSTRACT

From the above definition and the associated synonyms and antonyms it can be seen that the meaning of intelligence and hence of intelligent behaviour must of necessity contain subjective elements. Thus, certain patterns of behav iour can be interpreted as being characteristic of, or exhibiting, intelligence. This is particularly the case w hen considering the response of people or animals to external stimuli and their ability as a consequence to determine a particular course of action, often incorporating the setting of goals and the making of both strategic and tactical decisions in relation to the achievement of those goals.
