ABSTRACT
The recent advances in application of soft materials like polymer gels represent the beginnings of a new branch of engineering. Since the pioneering work done by Katchalsky's group, it has been recognised that the contractile activity of polymer gels can be used to function as muscle-like soft linear actuators in advanced robotics, micromachines, biomimetic energy-transducing devices and controlled delivery systems [1-4].
