ExpressionsarederivedfortheelectrostaticforceactingonthetipofanAtomic Forcemicroscopeinthepresenceof(a)apointchargeand(b)auniformsurface chargeonapolymerfilm.Inaseriesofexperimentsinwhichapolypropylene surfaceis'uniformly'chargedusingascorotronarrangementattemptsatimaging thechargeinthe'lift-offmodeoftheNanoscopeIliAAFMappearstoproduce highlyresolvedtopographicalimagesofthepolymersurface.Theroleofchargetipinteractionsinproducingsuchanimageisdiscussed.
