ABSTRACT
One very important person on the cruise was Dr Anthony Aveni, both in his capacity as an eminent astronomer and as we official "timekeeper" during we eclipse. This was a role I filled myself, I remember, during tl1e eclipse of 1954 in Sweden. But Tony Aveni was far more efficient than I had been, so long ago. Finally, do not forget Ted Pedas, who was the project co-ordinator and who had organised the entire expendition.
