ABSTRACT

So far, olfactometry has been the only available technique for odour measurements. In this case, the human nose serves as a sensor, i.e. test persons are employed as sniffers. Due to its dependence on test persons, and working hours this method has disadvantages. It is not possible to measure the emissions continuously, which is necessary to assess different agriculture systems. The reason is that odour nuisance often is a problem specially at night times or on weekends. Therefore it is necessary to develop a technical measuring device for continuous odour monitoring that is independent from the human nose. A new system based on a multisensor array was developed for continuous measurements.
