Abstract. The kinetics model of argon ionic excimer pumped by electron beam is built. There are 39 possible reactions in the cavity and their rate constants to be found. The reaction rate equations are built. The equations are calculated numerically and the relations between number density of argon ionic excimer and time are obtained. With the calculation results of number density, the small signal gain is calculated. Experimental results are compared with the theoretical results. And it is proved that the 240nm spectrum in the third continuum originates from the transition of Ar2+ ionic excimer.
