ABSTRACT

This book focuses on cognitive, dynamic aspects of real design, that is, the actual cognitive activity implemented by designers during their work on professional design projects. It is hoped that the elements presented will be used to build a descriptive cognitive model of design. We address only indirectly their possible applications, such as in design education (Adams, Turns, & Atman, 2003; Demirbas & Demirkan, 2003; Expertise in Design, 2004; A. Heylighen & Verstijnen, 2003; Oxman, 2004) and assistance (Atwood et al., 1995; Bertolotti, Macrí, & Tagliaventi, 2004; Falzon & Visser, 1989; Fischer, Nakakoji, Ostwald, Stahl, & Sumner, 1998; Marmaras & Pavard, 1999; Visser & Hoc, 1990).
