ABSTRACT

In the preparation of solid-liquid dispersions, two processes can be recognized:

1. Size reduction of a massive solid phase into a powder and the dispersion of the powder in a liquid

2. Preparation of suspensions from molecular size material by crystallization or polymerization

In addition to the mechanical means to establish and maintain a state of particle separation, chemical additives are required to improve particulate dispersion. As all these aspects have been treated thoroughly in monographs by others [1,2], a short summary of important aspects is given here, and selected references are cited for the interested reader.
