Pipe made of thermoplastic resins can be bent or shaped by the application of heat whereas pipe made of thermosetting resins cannot be so processed.

Plastic piping systems do not have specific compositions. In order to produce the piping system, it is necessary to add various ingredients to the base resin to aid in the manufacturing operation and/or to alter mechanical or corrosion resistant properties. In so doing, one property is improved at the expense of another. Each piping system carries the name of the base resin from which it is manufactured. Because of the compounding and the various formula­ tions, mechanical and corrosion resistant properties can vary from one manu­ facturer to another. The tabulated values given are averages and are to be used as guides. Specific recommendations for an application should be obtained from the manufacturer of the piping system.
