ABSTRACT

An added benefit of woody plant control is the simultaneous control of the herbaceous weeds (nonwoody) associated with woody plants. Most of the herbicides discussed in this book readily control herbaceous weeds. Selection of the herbicide may depend upon the degree of selectivity needed. For example, in pasture and rangeland situations to control woody plants and leave desirable grasses and forbs, low rates of growth-regulator-type herbicides such as 2,4-D or dicamba may be desired. If total vegetation control is desired, more nonselective herbicides, such as bromacil, paraquat, or glyphosate-or combinations of contact plus soil-applied materials-may be desired for quick bumdown and residual control. Selectivity may also be controlled by the herbicide rate and the timing of application, depending upon the species' susceptibility to the herbicide.
