ABSTRACT

The liquid phase hydrogenation of aromatic nitriles has significant potential applications in the pharmaceutical and specialty chemicals industry. In contrast to aliphatic nitriles (I, 2, 3, 4 ), the systematic investigation of the hydrogenation of aromatic nitriles is not equally well documented in the literature (13, 14, 15). We therefore have chosen benzonitrile as a model substance and Raney Nickel as catalyst for our studies.
