ABSTRACT

This chapter explains the Design of Experiments(DoE) and reliability. DoE is a means of obtaining and organizing knowledge, while reliability is a feature of faster, better, and cheaper products. Reliability is best assured when it is designed into the product by the design engineer, and built into the product by production personnel, rather than calculated externally by reliability professional. DoE and reliability engineering are recommended as effective tools for meeting market challenges. DoE can be used anywhere knowledge is important, then it can be applied across a broad range of disciplines, such as marketing, accounting, management, procurement, and reliability. The reliability discipline has been developed over the years since World War II, with a significant contribution by military personnel and agencies. As reliability takes on new importance, it is becoming apparent that it cannot remain a separate discipline.
