ABSTRACT
I. INTRODUCTION There are many types of literature review, each with its own customary format. Bruce (1994) has identified six major types of literature review: list, search, survey, vehicle for learning, report, and research facilitator. As we are dealing with empirical research writing, we will focus on the format of reviews that are the last of Bruce's six types. The literature review in research writing is not a list, search results, a survey, an educational overview, or a report. Rather it is a careful mobilization of previous studies in support of the research being proposed by the author in his or her paper, thesis, or dissertation.
